Hazard: On some bicycles the brake mounting bracket (used to attach the brake to the fork) does not sit flush on the fork mounting tabs, and is at such an angle as to increase the force exerted on the tabs...

Name of product: Rainier model mountain bicycle. Units: 163 Manufacturer/Importer: The bicycle is manufactured by Giant Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and distributed by Giant Bicycle, Inc. (“Giant”). Hazard: On some bicycles the brake mounting bracket (used to attach the brake to the fork) does not sit flush on the fork mounting tabs, and is at such an angle as to increase the force exerted on the tabs. This problem can cause the tabs to fracture, allowing the brake to separate from the fork. Incidents/Injuries: None reported. Description: The recall concerns only Rainier model mountain bicycles sold in early 2004, model numbers 333502, 333503, 333504 and 333505. The bicycle is team blue/polished aluminum and it is equipped with a Marzocchi EXR Comp front fork. Earlier models of this bicycle (which are not affected by this recall) are not equipped with this fork. Sold at: Authorized dealers nationwide in February and early March 2004 for approximately $850.00. Manufactured in: Taiwan Remedy: Consumers may contact Giant to determine whether their bicycle is affected. The authorized dealers who sold these bicycles will contact consumers to schedule an inspection and repair.
