Project Bike Tech Offers Bike Repair as a Credited High School Elective

Giant

Giant sponsors the Project Bike Tech program

A few weeks ago, Giant had the opportunity to visit Santa Cruz High School and Parajo Valley High School, two facilities that have implemented the Giant sponsored Project Bike Tech, Bike Tech in School program. This innovative curriculum is the brain child of Berri Michel, co-owner of The Bicycle Trip in Santa Cruz, CA.

Berri though of the idea while searching for qualified mechanics to staff her shop, and discovering a lack of skilled workers available. By partnering with the local education department, Berri’s idea has blossomed into a thriving career development program that has already expanded to seven schools in the Northern California area, with chapters soon opening in Colorado as well.

Project Bike Tech uses bicycle education as a conduit to teach core academics, enhance lives, create career opportunities and inspire new generations to be passionate about bikes. Their primary program, Bike Tech in School, is a credited high school elective that introduces students to bicycle industry careers, providing them with the skills needed to become entry-level bicycle mechanics and offering in-depth career counseling.
