Earl’s Bicycle Store And Giant Celebrate Remodel

Retail

And Unveiling Of Co-Branded Giant Lewisburg Shop

Unique building and trailside location make this Central Pennsylvania shop a customer favorite

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Eleven years after they initially joined forces, Earl’s Bicycle Store and Giant are strengthening their partnership. Last weekend the shop, located 500 feet from a Rails to Trails bike path in Central Pennsylvania, celebrated the grand opening of its newly remodeled store. With its new look and expanded product range, the co-branded store also announced a new name: Giant Lewisburg.

Earl’s Bicycle Store, owned and operated by Earl and Lisa Rissler, has been a stronghold in the local cycling scene in and around Lewisburg for years. Starting last fall, the store began undergoing renovations to make it a co-branded store with Giant. The new Giant Lewisburg store offers a full selection of Giant, Liv and Momentum brand bicycles and gear.

“I knew what I wanted to do with the store, and the team from Giant took my ideas and improved upon them,” said store owner Earl Rissler. “It all came together great. Customers are impressed, we’re hearing from them that they really like it.”

Giant retail services executive James Yao said the goal was to preserve and emphasize the unique look and feel of the shop, which Rissler and his team converted over from an old auto parts store when they originally opened three years ago.

“Working with Earl, his staff and family was great,” Yao said. “They know their business and knew exactly what they had in mind for the remodel. I think we accomplished all that they were looking for while giving customers an organized shopping experience that makes sense in Earl’s unique building.”

There are currently seven Giant retail stores in the U.S. Most are new and known by location, including Giant Santa Monica and Giant Little Rock. There are also several co-branded stores such as Giant Lewisburg-Earl’s Bicycle Store. “By co-branding a store like this, we can be sure the community knows it’s still owned by Earl and still has the same superior sales and service that Earl has always offered,” said Yao.

The Earl’s Bicycle Store building has gone through extensive renovations since it was first acquired. “We moved to this location just over three years ago,” said Rissler. “Before we moved in we did a lot of structural changes, opening up the spaces. We basically went to the stud walls and even moved a bunch of those. All new plumbing and electrical work, we pretty much re-did the whole thing. But with this latest remodel, we’ve really made it nice, brought it up to modern retail standards.”

Updates to the store include new floor tiling to replace the painted concrete floor; all-new LED lights; fresh paint and updated colors and graphics on all the walls; and all-new fixtures to display Giant, Liv and Momentum bikes and gear.

The store’s new look was unveiled at a grand opening celebration that featured group rides, food and drinks, a mountain bike trials stunt show by Giant-sponsored pro Jeff Lenosky, and a raffle contest for a new Momentum iRide Rocker fat bike.

Wet weather made for a slow start to the opening, said Rissler, but business picked up on the second day. “Saturday afternoon, when Jeff did his show, was definitely the best,” he said. “As far as sales dollars go, we probably doubled or tripled everything we had done before that for the weekend.”

Giant sales representative George Shriver said the rain put a damper on things, “but we all made the most of it and the customer reception was great. I am very proud of the guys at Giant Lewisburg,” he added. “They have really taken their business and store to a fantastic new level.”
