A Giant Celebration with Giro d'Italia Champion Tom Dumoulin

Giant

Team Sunweb rider Tom Dumoulin, the first Dutchman to ever win the Giro d’Italia, was honored by Giant at a July 3 company celebration in The Netherlands.

The 100th edition of the Giro d’Italia, held over three weeks in May, was filled with drama for Dumoulin, his team, and cycling fans everywhere who watched the best stage racers in the world battle on Italy’s legendary roads and high mountain peaks. The 26-year-old Dutchman wore the maglia rosa leader’s jersey longer than any other rider (from Stage 10 through Stage 19), surrendered it in the Dolomites a few days before the finish, and then took it back on the final stage in Milan.

Dumoulin dominated the overall contenders in the Giro’s two decisive time trials on his Giant Trinity Advanced Pro TT bike. He stunned fans with a pivotal stage win in the mountains on his TCR Advanced SL. And he fought through plenty of adversity to score the career-defining achievement.

Giant decided to honor Dumoulin’s accomplishment during its Giant Benelux retailer event in The Netherlands in early July. As part of the celebration, a special 2000-piece puzzle was created to symbolize the team effort that went into Dumoulin’s success. From manufacturing and product development, to all of Giant’s retail partners, to the entire Team Sunweb organization, all played a part in Dumoulin’s victory.  The puzzle was pieced together by employees at the Giant Europe office in Lelystad, The Netherlands. And just as he did at the Giro d’Italia, Dumoulin finished the job, appearing on stage to place the last three pieces of the puzzle.

Giant also presented Dumoulin with a Thank You card that was specially made with a 3D cutout of the Dutchman’s winning image in front of the Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano), site of the final celebration. The card was signed by Giant Chairperson Bonnie Tu, and Giant CEO Young Liu.

“We are all so proud of this historic accomplishment by Tom and Team Sunweb,” said Phoebe Liu, Giant’s Chief Branding Officer. “The puzzle is a fun way to represent all the moving pieces that go into building a champion, and how we all work together to make this happen.”
