Introducing D-Fuse Technology
Giant first introduced its breakthrough D-Fuse technology in 2014. Initially developed as a seatpost for pro-level cyclocross bikes, it was designed to absorb shocks and vibrations and deliver a smoother ride and more control on variable terrain. The heart of this pioneering concept is its distinctive "D-shaped" tubing with a round front and flattened rear section. Following its success in cyclocross, including multiple world championship titles, D-Fuse was expanded to endurance road bikes and later to the front half of the bicycle. This year a number of Giant performance bikes, including Defy endurance road bikes and Revolt X-road bikes, feature D-Fuse seatposts and handlebars. The handlebars work together with the seatpost to add compliance at two key contact points without the unwanted complexity or weight associated with pivots or inserts. There are currently several D-Fuse handlebar options, including the composite Contact SLR D-Fuse and aluminum Contact SL D-Fuse models, plus the gravel-ready Contact XR D-Fuse bar featured on Revolt X-road bikes.

D-Fuse handlebars are made with D-shaped tubing that’s similar to the design of the D-Fuse seatpost.
Contact SLR D-Fuse handlebars (featured on some Defy models) are 6% lighter than Contact SLR round bars. Contact XR D-Fuse handlebar (featured on Revolt models) are 5% lighter than the Contact SL round bars.
10% more “pushing” (downward) compliance compared to round shaped Contact handlebars for a smoother ride quality.
Up to 30% more “pulling” (upward) stiffness compared to the round shaped Contact handlebar for cornering, sprinting and climbing efficiency.
