Panniers come in all shapes and sizes. Since different riders have different needs, there is no single pannier style that’s perfect for everyone.

Rear panniers are common because they can handle heavy loads and are often easiest to assemble. Here’s a look at some important features for this type of pannier and how to install Giant rear panniers on your E-bike.

How do you install the rear pannier?

Giant rear panniers are made with a click system. The advantage of a click system is that the bag can be quickly released or reattached. This is especially useful for commuting or touring. You can easily carry and store your bags at work, or in a tent or hotel room. And they are easy to use as shoulder bags, too.

What is the best closing method for pannier bags?

There are several different closure styles. A zip closes well but not that fast. Also, with a zip closures it’s difficult to carry long or oversized objects. Bags with large flaps make it easier to carry bulky items. Roller closures are widely used, including on some Giant panniers. This type of enclosure prevents water from getting inside. A side zipper offers entry into main compartment without opening the flap. This is helpful when you want to quickly grab something.

What kind of material is suitable for me?

The thicker the material, the more durable the bag. The thickness also affects flexibility and weight. Lighter weight material may be the right choice for longer treks on hilly terrain. Make sure the material is also water resistant and flexible, to keep your gear dry in all kinds of weather. Giant panniers are made from waterproof material and designed with compression straps.

Bonus tips:

  • Put your gear on the E-bike, not your back. Riding with a heavy backpack is not only bad for your back, but can also feel hot in warm weather. So if there is space, ride with your cargo or gear in one of the pannier bags.
  • Use the pannier to support your E-bike against a wall. When the E-bike is heavily loaded, it can be difficult to park the bike properly. Use the weight of the bags to lean your E-bike carefully against a wall. This will prevent it from getting damaged.
  • Assemble your bags so that they are secure in bumpy terrain. The lower the weight on the bike, the more stable the bike will ride, so try to place the heaviest items lower in the bag. Use front and rear pockets, then add about a third of the weight on the front axle. This will improve the stability of your bike.

Enjoy your ride!
