Team BikeExchange-Jayco found success at two key European stage races that wrapped up over the weekend. Dylan Groenewegen won a stage at the Tour of Slovenia, and Michael Matthews took the points jersey at the Tour de Suisse.

Groenewegen sprinted to victory on Stage 2 at the Tour of Slovenia, delivering on the team’s key objective at the five-day stage race. The 28-year-old Dutchman collected his fifth win of the season when he powered his Propel Advanced SL team bike with a CADEX WheelSystem to the win on the 174km stage from Ptuj to Rogaška Slatina, a hard-fought day that included some tough climbs before a bunch sprint at the end.

After an early break of six riders was reeled in with 40km to go, there was a flurry of attacks in the closing hour of the race. Team BikeExchange-Jayco riders were able to control things, and Groenewegen’s teammates Campbell Stewart and Luka Mezgec helped lead him out in the finale.

“We timed it really well,” said Groenewegen, who wore the Giant Pursuit helmet to earn the win. “It wasn’t perfect, but Luka made a really smart move to make some space for me, and I could follow the other riders and find some space to sprint. It was a really hard stage, so thanks to my teammates for this victory.”

Matthews kept the momentum going for the team at the Tour de Suisse, an eight-day stage race that’s seen as a key preparation for the upcoming Tour de France in July. The Australian had two podium finishes—third on Stage 2 and second on Stage 4—with his Propel Advanced SL, and he also won the points classification.

Matthews, who wore his Giant Rev Pro helmet, made his move for the black points leader’s jersey on Stage 6, the Queen stage that finished atop the Mooslap. The 31-year-old won two intermediate sprints and then protected his lead throughout the final two stages.
