Last month Colombian Leonardo Páez rode his Giant Anthem Advanced Pro 29 to the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championship title in Grächen, Switzerland. He conquered the 70km alpine course to earn the gold medal and rainbow striped world champion’s jersey.

Páez, a 37-year-old who rides for the Team Giant-Liv Polimedical team based in Italy, made the marathon world championships the focus of his season. He finished third last year and this year was able to take the top step on the podium.

Speaking about the course in Grächen, which featured more than 13,000 feet of climbing, Páez said: “It was really technical, so I started to prepare for this race at the beginning of the season.”

Páez built up his Anthem Advanced Pro 29 to be as lightweight as possible. On race day, it weighed just 20.6 pounds
