Australian Van Tim Berkel completed his fourth Ironman World Championship race in Kona, Hawaii, last weekend with a solid top-15 finish. The Giant-sponsored triathlete rode the Trinity Advanced Pro, a bike he helped develop to provide a purpose-built aero advantage for racing against the clock, along with the Giant Pursuit aero road helmet.
Tim has had a strong 2017 season highlighted by a win at Ironman 70.3 Vietnam and a 4th place finish at the Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship in Australia. His best finish ever at the Ironman World Championship was 2014 when he was 7th, and though he wasn’t completely satisfied with this year’s result in Hawaii, he said he was able to push through on a tough day.
“I’m pretty disappointed with the race, but I gave it my all on a day that I really struggled from the cannon,” Tim said. “It wasn’t my best, but it wasn’t my worst result in Kona. Every year I learn something new, so I’ll be back in 2018 hungrier than ever.”
