The June issue of MBR magazine features a comprehensive review of the year’s top short-travel 29er trail bikes. Editors narrowed down their selection to four of this year's top models “to see which offers the best mix of flat-out speed and grin-inducing handling.” In the end, the 2019 Giant Trance 29 took top honors.
A new addition to the Trance family this year, the Trance 29 1 model won over editors with its lightweight ALUXX SL aluminum frame, Maestro rear suspension, and quality components including a Giant TRX1 composite WheelSystem.
The Trance 29 went up against three solid competitors in its category: a Cannondale Habit Carbon 3, Merida One-Twenty 6000 and Specialized Stumpjumper FSR ST Comp Carbon 29. Scoring a nearly perfect 9/10 ranking, the Trance 29 took the coveted “Test Winner” award.
“The Giant Trance 29 1 is the archetypal short-travel trail bike,” editors wrote. “It’s 1kg lighter than most of the machines we tested last month in Trail Bike of the Year, it’s more efficient too, blisteringly fast on singletrack and the perfect too for all-day rides. It has plenty of confidence and stability, so if you want to session some features or get your wheels off the ground you can do that too.”
Summing up their recommendation, MBR wrote: “With the Trance 29 1, Giant has put its money in all the right places and produced a really balanced package. Look no further if you need a reason to buy a short-travel trail bike.”
