Unlimit Yourself

Climbs to the summit. Maintaining power into a stiff headwind. Leaning into a corner and accelerating out of it. These are the things we love about road riding. The all-new Defy Advanced E+ Elite is made to give you more of it.

From daily training rides to weekend epics, all-out hammer sessions to casual coffee shop rides, this smooth-riding E-bike is a direct descendent of the award-winning Defy endurance road bike range. It’s designed and engineered to look, feel and ride like a high-performance road bike, with the added element of seamless pedaling support.

It all adds up to a road riding experience you’ve always dreamed of. Faster, farther, no limitations.

KEY PERFORMANCE FACTORS OF THE DEFY ADVANCED E+ ELITE

SEAMLESS POWER

At the core of the Defy Advanced E+ Elite is the all-new SyncDrive Move Plus motor, which delivers dynamic, natural feeling pedaling assistance up to 45 km/h in the U.S., 32 km/h in Canada, and 25 km/h in Europe (based on varying regulations within those countries). Integrated into the rear hub, it’s a lightweight powertrain (1.7kg) that harnesses the energy you put into the pedals and amplifies it to help you climb steep hills, power across the flats, and extend your ride while feeling less fatigue.

The motor is engineered with Giant’s “E-Road exclusive riding pattern” to match the pedaling pattern of road cyclists. When you start from a static position, it gradually increases power to give you a smooth feel with no unexpected power surges. When you stop pedaling and coast, it gradually reduces support to avoid a feeling of sudden power loss.
pedaling on e-bike
In addition to being lighter than typical mid-drive motors, the hub-drive design of SyncDrive Move Plus creates a natural road pedaling feel because it spins with the rear wheel. The motor’s RPM is synced with the wheel’s RPM. As a result, when pedaling in “cruise phase,” the motor output is tapered, so it feels natural rather than leading the rider’s pedal stroke. And, equally important, there is no feeling of drag when freewheeling or coasting along.

The SyncDrive Move Plus motor is powered by EnergyPak 400, an ultra-slim battery that delivers 400Wh of power in a highly efficient and lightweight 2.3kg system. And by adding an EnergyPak 200 water bottle type range extender, riders can have 600Wh of power. Factoring in the energy savings of the tapered assist cruise phase, riders can easily reach 150km of range. You get all the power, but in a smaller package that’s cleanly integrated within the down tube.

SYSTEM INTEGRATION

Every element of the Defy Advanced E+ Elite is integrated for optimal performance and ease of use. It starts with the RideControl Go button, which is integrated into the top tube for quick, easy access. The button can be used to turn the E-bike on or off, and also to change power modes. Colored LED lights show the support mode and battery level.

The SyncDrive Move Plus motor system includes Smart Assist technology, which features smart sensors that precisely measure the power being applied to the pedals. This allows the motor to provide just the right amount of assistance to create a natural, powerful riding experience while also optimizing energy efficiency for both the rider and the battery system.

All models feature SRAM wireless electronic drivetrains as well as handlebar-mounted AXS wireless Blips, which are set up to switch assist modes without having to remove your hands from the bars. (The Defy Advanced E+ Elite 0 is equipped with SRAM AXS Red shifters and SRAM Bonus Buttons instead of Blips.) An integrated taillight, positioned near the top of the seat tube, is always on, providing added visibility on the road.

PURE ROAD PERFORMANCE

At first glance, the Defy Advanced E+ Elite looks like any other high-performance road bike. It’s closely related to the Defy range of endurance road bikes, sharing many of the same design cues, technologies, and performance factors including frame geometry and key components.

Every frame is handcrafted in Giant’s own composite manufacturing facility to meet specific goals for critical factors like vertical compliance. In the rear of the bike, dropped seatstays absorb road shocks and vibrations as they travel up from the rear wheel toward the rider. Up front, an Advanced SL grade composite fork helps absorb shocks traveling up through the front wheel.

d-fuse seatpost
Beyond the frameset, every Defy Advanced E+ Elite features integrated components to further improve compliance. The first is the D-Fuse composite seatpost, which uses a D-shaped composite shaft that absorbs shocks and adds a small amount of flexing action (up to 12mm). This significantly reduces the energy of bumps and vibrations that travel through the saddle.
front bars
This technology is also applied to the front of the bike with D-Fuse handlebars. The bars use similar D-shaped composite tubing on the tops to add more road-smoothing compliance. They also have a unique ergonomic shape with a short reach and an 8-degree flare in the drops for more stable handling on descents. Every model has clearance for high-volume 38mm tubeless tires, and the Defy Advanced E+ Elite AR comes with all-road ready tires for a smooth ride on rough roads, gravel or dirt.

E-ROAD EXCLUSIVE RIDING PATTERN

Drawing from more than 50 years of bike manufacturing expertise, Giant engineered an E-road bike that delivers natural pedaling support. Not only does the Defy Advanced E+ Elite look like a regular high-performance road bike, it also rides like one. Here are three scenarios on how it works:

STARTING OFF
When you start pedaling from a static position, the motor gradually increases the power. This gives you a nice smooth start with no sudden power surge.

SMOOTH DECELERATION
When you stop pedaling, the motor gradually reduces support to avoid a feeling of sudden power loss.

SPEED LIMIT OPTIMIZATION
For safety reasons, electric bikes have a speed limit. This means pedaling support stops when you reach the limit. To provide an authentic road cycling experience without any feelings of constraint, the motor is engineered to gradually reduce support a few km/h below the speed limit. As a result, you won’t feel the power cut out suddenly. Note: This is only applied to countries with a 25 km/h SyncDrive Move Plus motor.

BATTERY RANGE OPTIMIZATION

With adjustments to power usage throughout your ride, battery range is optimized without sacrificing performance or ride quality. For example, when you’re coasting along with minimal pedaling effort, the motor adjusts to provide slightly less power. When you start to pedal harder—and your input reaches a defined level—the motor provides more power to support you. If you’re pedaling below the defined input level, the motor maintains its level of support to keep you increasing your effort.
