Bicycling Magazine recently announced its 2018 Editors’ Choice Awards at the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, California, and the Anthem 29 XC machine was one of just 16 bikes to make the prestigious list of mountain bike winners.
Each year Bicycling conducts a comprehensive search to identify and review the best bikes available to consumers. This year they went through hundreds of mountain bikes, narrowing the field down to a final list of 50 bikes.
“To choose this year’s Editors’ Choice mountain bikes, we meticulously sifted through every option on the market,” wrote Bicycling editors. “Based on our experience shredding the most noteworthy bikes and component groups, our knowledge of models past and present, and overall value, we narrowed the list to 50 trail, XC, enduro, all-mountain and gravity bikes. Then we put tons of miles on them, from Pennsylvania to Colorado to Southern California, to see which ones we could send farther, launch higher, and ride faster.”
The Anthem 29 rose to the top as one of their favorites. Editors praised the lightweight aluminum 29er, which features 29er-specific geometry and 90mm of updated Maestro rear suspension technology including the Advanced Forged Composite upper rocker arm and trunnion mount shock.
“With a longer cockpit and slacker angles than past models, the mid-priced, alloy-frame Anthem 29 1 delivers on the racecourse and has handling and trail manners that are decidedly new school,” wrote Bicycling test editor Mike Yozell. “One tester appreciated the bike’s great value for what you get: SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain, Fox suspension, Giant-branded carbon wheels, and an overall excellent frame design. It rallies on the downhills and climbs like a house on fire.”
