The 2018 Bicycling Buyer’s Guide features the new Propel Advanced SL Disc aero road bike on the cover, with editors labeling it as “the bike that has it all.”
Bicycling test director Matt Phillips tested the flagship Propel Advanced SL 0 model. In his review, he writes that “Giant took just about every top-end feature and popular technology and crammed it into one bike. The spec and technology list is so long, there is literally not space to get into the details here.”
But what really stood out in the review of the cutting-edge aero road machine, which was developed in the wind-tunnel and on the road with some of the top sprinters from Team Sunweb including Tour de France points winner Michael Matthews, is the way it rides.
“It feels like a race bike in all the ways it should,” Phillips wrote. “It’s reactive, it’s stiff, it’s slippery. It’s brilliant on the flats, but it’s also great for climbing, and even better for descending. The handling is excellent; it’s smooth and damped enough to ride for hours. And the braking and drivetrain are nearly perfect.”
Summing it up, Phillips claimed that “Giant has built the class-leading aero road bike—and one of the best high-performance bikes, period.”
