Singletrack magazine has been testing the new Rail SX MIPS and recently posted a detailed review of the fully featured helmet for enduro and trail riding. Tester Wil Barrett described all the technical features and compared its performance against other helmets in its category.

“The Rail SX has been designed with input from the Giant Factory Off-Road Team,” Barrett wrote. “The priority for the team was to create an open ventilated helmet design with plenty of coverage for impact protection, while also being fully goggle-compatible.”

Barrett found that the Rail SX was one of the lightest among top trail/enduro helmets, and he praised its fit and adjustability along with its head-cooling ventilation.

“The 20 equally-spaced vents work exceptionally well at bringing in cool air, while also letting sweaty vapour to naturally elevate out of the helmet while climbing at slower speeds,” Barrett  wrote. “Having ridden this helmet though the peak of a very hot Aussie summer, I’ve been impressed at how cool it runs given the extensive coverage.”

Barrett also detailed some of the features, including its goggle compatibility, adjustable visor and integrated mount for GoPro cameras or helmet lights including the Giant Recon.

Summing up his review, Barrett wrote: I was pleasantly surprised by Giant’s Rail SX helmet. It’s got plenty of useful features, like the goggle/glasses stowage, and the low-profile camera mount. It’s also very well ventilated, and I personally got on with the fit really well – it’s a comfy lid no doubt.”
