Day leads Giant podium charge at Sea Otter DH!
The Giant Factory Off-Road Team closed out the 2017 Sea Otter Classic on a high note, putting three riders on the podium in Sunday’s pro downhill races, the last events of the four-day mountain bike festival in Monterey, California.
First-year Factory Team rider Mike Day led the way with a second-place finish in the pro men’s race, and he was joined by teammate Josh Carlson, who finished third. In the women’s race, Rae Morrison, representing the women’s Liv brand, finished fourth.
Day, a former BMX star who has made the transition to downhill racing, won the pro men’s Sea Otter DH last year. He came close to repeating on Sunday, finishing second on the Trance Advanced trail/enduro bike.
“After crashing out of dual slalom in the round of 8 on Saturday, it felt great to come back in the DH and put in a solid run for my first ride with the Giant Factory Off-Road Team,” Day said. “The Sea Otter DH has always suited me well, so to end up second, I’m pumped! I'm looking forward to more races this summer.”
Carlson, who also chose the Trance Advanced for the fast, wide-open Sea Otter DH track, put in a clean run to finish third.
“I’m stoked to step onto the podium this weekend in the DH,” Carlson said. “I felt great during practice and my Trance Advanced was dialed. My race run was smooth and mistake free, and I felt great on the bike.”
In the pro women’s race, Morrison captured her second podium finish in her first year racing at Sea Otter, finishing fourth and adding to her second place finish in the enduro.
