The latest round of the Crankworx World Tour was held in Austria as a televised event without any spectators on-site due to COVID-19 guidelines. Sterling, an 18-year-old first-year member of the Giant Factory Off-Road Team, is the 2019 U.S. Downhill Junior National Champion. He came into the Innsbruck event with several wins at U.S. regional events earlier this year. The teenager showed his speed once again, pushing his Glory Advanced DH bike to the limit on the challenging Innsbruck terrain.
“The downhill went awesome, and it was great to finish the event with a win,” said Sterling, who earned the win wearing his Giant Shuttle shoes. “The track was super fun. It was jumpy up top, fast in the middle, and ended with a technical bit at the bottom. I’m stoked on this week and looking forward to carrying this positive energy into World Championships next week in Leogang.”
In addition to his DH victory, Sterling also finished fourth in the pro men’s dual slalom. “I showed up feeling a bit hesitant since my last slalom race was over a year ago and I knew there was some pressure from my win here last year, but I didn’t let any of that phase me,” he said after making it all the way to the semi-finals on his Anthem race bike. “I felt good in practice but was not able to link up the bottom corners as well as I wanted in the semi-final. I finished fourth and am happy to be back in one of my favorite countries racing with great people.”
Also representing the squad was Jacob Dickson racing in the pro men’s category. The three-time elite men’s national champion from Ireland put in a sold run in the DH, finishing 15th on his Glory Advanced bike.
