Cycling Plus magazine selected the new Defy Advanced Pro road bike as an overall winner in its 2019 Bike of the Year awards, naming the composite-framed endurance road machine the “Best for Comfort” in 2019.
The entire Defy range was updated for 2019, and Cycling Plus editors found the new improvements to their liking, giving the updated road machine a perfect five-star ranking.“It’s evolved, but the Defy is still one of the best of its breed,” editors wrote.
The innovative D-Fuse composite seatpost and Contact SLR D-Fuse composite handlebar are designed to work as a system and add compliance, which reduces road shocks and vibrations. The updated frame design is also integrated for disc brakes, with flat mounts and 12mm front and rear thru-axles, as well as clearance for high-volume tires up to 32c for a smoother ride on variable roads.
Cycling Plus tested the flagship Defy Advanced Pro 0 model, which comes with the new Giant Power Pro power meter. They described the bike as a “power meter-equipped king of comfort” and concluded that “if you're not out to race but still want to get round that sportive, fondo, charity ride or club run as quickly as possible, the Defy comes with a specification unmatched at this price.”
