Two new mountain bike helmets from Giant, the Rail and Roost, have been grabbing attention on the trail and in the media with rave reviews.

Both the Rail and Roost feature redesigned head forms that offer a better fit for a wider range of riders. Both also have Mips rotational impact protection systems and have earned five-star safety ratings from the world-renowned Virginia Tech Helmet safety lab. The Rail uses a super low-profile Mips Air Node® system integrated into its featherweight padding, while the Roost features a standard Mips system.

Pinkbike reviewed both helmets and came away impressed. “Giant have hit the mark with the Rail when it comes to safety, fit, and appearance,” wrote reviewer Matt Beer. “The neutral colors and shapes should appeal to all appetites.”

Vital MTB also reviewed both helmets, noting the improved fit and comfort over previous models. “The updated circular head form was immediately noticeable in both helmets, and it was apparent that the team at Giant was looking for a unique fit, unlike most helmets we’ve worn,” wrote reviewer Tanner Stephens. “To our satisfaction, we did not experience any pressure points during testing and did not need to cinch down the retention system as hard as some other helmets to achieve a desirable fit.”

BikeRadar appreciated the new styling and technologies of the Rail, writing: “The aesthetically slick lid includes additional vents for better airflow, the MIPS Air Node rotational impact system, a four-position rear adjustment and a Fidlock magnetic buckle, making it a premium option.”

Offroad.cc called the Rail “a great looking helmet and a reasonable price” and gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Reviewer Josh Price wrote: “If you’re after a minimalist helmet, with great safety and comfort features, the Rail represents a good shout and is easily one of the best mountain bike helmets currently on the market.”
