Virginia Tech 5 Star Rating
In collaborazione con l'Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, Virginia Tech ha valutato un totale di 128 caschi da bici utilizzando il sistema di valutazione STAR. I test di impatto del casco da bicicletta valutano la capacità di un casco di ridurre l'accelerazione lineare e la velocità di rotazione della testa derivanti da una serie di impatti che un ciclista potrebbe subire. I caschi con più stelle forniscono una riduzione del rischio di commozione cerebrale per questi impatti rispetto ai caschi con meno stelle.
MIPS
Il MIPS BPS (Brain Protection System) è stato creato per aggiungere protezione nei caschi contro il movimento rotazionale. Il movimento rotazionale è una combinazione di energia di rotazione (velocità angolare) e forze di rotazione (dall'accelerazione angolare) che colpisce il cervello e aumenta il rischio di lesioni cerebrali minori e gravi.
