Tested and proven by WorldTour pros including grand tour winner Simon Yates, the Surge Pro is the lightest, most efficient road shoe ever from Giant. Yates rode his Surge Pros to several high-profile wins including multiple stages at the Giro d'Italia.
Gear testers were impressed with the shoe’s next-generation technologies including a dual-beam carbon outsole for superior efficiency, and a redesigned 360-degree wrap-around foot closure that delivers a secure and comfortable feel.
BikeRadar editor Jack Evans awarded the Surge Pro a near perfect 4.5-star rating and also included it in his 2022 Gear of the Year round-up, noting that their “rock-solid carbon soles felt efficient, comfortable and stable on marathon rides as well as during intense efforts in hill climb races.”
Evans was also impressed with the Surge Pro’s two Boa Li2 reels and Velcro strap on each shoe, which he says “offer plenty of adjustability.”
BikeRumor.com’s gear tester Jordan Villella was also impressed with the fit of the Surge Pro, which earned a place on his Best Bikes & Gear 2022 round-up. “The fit is unique; it’s very secure but without feeling constrained,” wrote Villella, adding that Giant’s ExoWrap technology “wraps the foot securely without causing hotspots or tightness.”
Villella praised the ExoBeam outsole plate that features a dual-beam design made with an ultralight carbon fiber layup construction to deliver superior toe-heel stiffness. “The ExoBeam allows for a super still pedaling platform and some torsional flex in the sole,” noted Villella, adding that he also favored the Surge Pro on hot summer days. “The ventilation is supreme, and the open sole vents are very noticeable. If you’re looking for an eye-catching road shoe and an all-around performer, the Giant Surge Pro Shoe is a great mix of performance and comfort.”
