Giant Factory Off-Road Team rider Stephan Davoust scored the silver medalat the USA Cycling Marathon Mountain Bike National Championships in Palo Duro Canyon, Texas, finishing 2:02 behind gold medal winner Russell Finsterwald.

The podium finish marked the latest in a string of strong results for Davoust, a 24-year-old who lives in Durango, Colorado. He also made the podium at last week’s Soldier Hollow Bike Festival stage race in Utah.

Riding his Anthem Advanced Pro 29 on a soggy course with heavy mud in places, Davoust used his technical skills to overcome the weather and terrain.

“I was in the back a bit earlier when Russell attacked,” Davoust told the Durango Herald. “I bridged back up to Payson [McElveen] and worked to maintain a gap of about 30 seconds to Russell. Russell kept on the gas, and Payson and I faded out a little bit. I was able to use my technical ability and pull away from Payson toward the end of the race with smaller, shorter attacks to pull away and hold the gap I created to finish up second.”

Davoust wore the new Giant Charge shoes and Rev helmet to make the podium his first time competing in this event. “This being my first time racing marathon nationals and first time racing in Texas, I was happy to come away with second place in a very strong field,” he said. “I was amazed at how my Anthem handled the riding in Palo Duro Canyon, it was efficient through the rough singletrack and conquered the short, punchy climbs.”

A second Giant Factory Off-Road Team rider, Tristan Uhl, also had a strong performance on his Anthem Advanced Pro 29, finishing 10th in the elite men’s race.

Next week Davoust and some of his Giant Factory Off-Road teammates will be back in Colorado for the Epic Rides Grand Junction Off-Road race.
