Nine Knights MTB Contest Action, Part I

Nine Knights Contest is Underway!

25 augusztus 2011

The Suzuki Nine Knights freeride contest, sponsored by Giant and hosted by Giant rider Andi Wittmann, is underway in the Hohe Taurn National Park in Wildkogel, Austria.

This unique freeride competition, which was inspired by the Nine Knights freeskiing event, features mountain biking’s top freeride athletes competing in a centuries-old village in Austria.

“The conditions are absolutely sensational,” Wittmann said. “The weather has been fantastic and we are ready to take this to the next level. The first couple of days were a good chance for us to feel our way through the set-ups and now that we are comfortable riding them, it’s time to cut loose.”

The world’s top riders, including Andi’s Canadian Giant teammate Kurt Sorge, plus Yannick Granieri from France, Timo Pritzl from Germany, Martin Soderstrom from Sweden and Darren Berrecloth from Canada, are facing off in a series of competitions on a purpose-built course known as “The Castle.”

The riders will vote to select the winner in each of three competition categories: Ruler of Big Air, Ruler of Trail, and the Ruler of Style. And competition is just as fierce for the photographer at the Nine Knights event. The riders will select the best shooters based on images presented in a number of specialized categories including best black and white, most creative angle and lifestyle shots.

The main event will take place Saturday. The winner-take-all “Joust Tournament” is a freeride jump competition featuring a 6-meter drop tower and a 12-meter jump that will allow the world’s best freeriders every opportunity to showcase their talents.
