A familiar sight: Compton now has 8 U.S. ’cross titles to her name.

Compton Wins 8th Straight U.S. CX Title!

8 január 2012

Rabobank-Giant rider Katie Compton won her eighth U.S. Cyclocross Championship Sunday in Wisconsin. The Colorado resident defended her stars-and-stripes jersey with a dominating performance on her Giant TCX Advanced SL team bike.

Compton, who teamed up with Giant a year ago and has been racing both XC mountain bike and cyclocross events this year, has had another successful ’cross season in 2011-12 including a handful of wins in Europe and the U.S.

Riding on a partially frozen, rutted course in Madison, Wisconsin, which experienced unseasonably warm temperatures in the days before the race, Compton attacked early and rode off the front. From the beginning, it was a race for second behind her. Compton finished two minutes clear of second and third-place finishers Katie Antonneau and Nicole Duke, who took silver and bronze respectively.

Compton will now turn her attention to Koksijde, Belgium, site of the January 28-29 World Championships.
