Just a few days after the official unveiling of Team Sunweb, the team has its first national championship.

Joris Nieuwenhuis, a member of the Team Sunweb Development squad, scored the team’s first win of the season at the Under-23 Dutch National Cyclocross Championship in Sint-Michielgestel.

Nieuwenhuis, who currently leads the U23 men’s World Cup standings, finished third in the combined Elite/U23 race in Sint-Michielgestel.

“The race went well and I am really pleased to take the U23 title,” said Nieuwenhuis, who rode his new TCX Advanced Pro team bike and wore the Giant Rev helmet to take the win.

“For a while I thought I might take silver in the overall race, but that didn’t work out,” he added. “It’s nice to win my first race for Team Sunweb, I didn’t expect that. The whole season is going really well.”

Now Nieuwenhuis will turn his attention toward defending his World Cup lead in the final two rounds, followed by the 2017 UCI Cyclocross World Championships at the end of the month in Luxembourg.
