Proven at the highest level by World Champion Alan Hatherly, the new XCR WheelSystem pushes the limits of what’s possible on fast, technical XC terrain. Engineered with advanced carbon construction, Dynamic Balanced Lacing (DBL) spoke technology, and a next-generation hub drive system, it combines the razor-sharp speed of an XC race wheel with the strength and control needed for full-speed, technical trail riding. From explosive starts to gnarly descents, XCR transmits every watt into forward motion, giving you the confidence to push harder, ride faster, and stay in control when it matters most.

Key Performance Factors

FULL POWER

A lightweight carbon rim layup, high-tensile-strength carbon spokes, and Dynamic Balanced Lacing (DBL) deliver uncompromising race-day efficiency. This advanced spoke-lacing system sets the leading and trailing spokes at a wider bracing angle and balances their tension under power, creating a stiffer, more stable wheel structure that resists deflection when you accelerate or corner hard. Working together with the lightweight rim construction, this design achieves exceptional stiffness-to-weight. The result is explosive acceleration, razor-sharp handling, and greater control across fast, technical terrain. At just 1350g, the new XCR sheds 150g compared to the previous generation. Lateral stiffness-to-weight improves by 8.8%, boosting precision through corners, while rear transmission stiffness-to-weight increases by 26 % for more efficient power transfer.

ZERO DELAY

Every split second counts in XC racing, and this next-generation hub is engineered to deliver immediate, consistent power with every pedal stroke. At its core, the Helical-Bevel Ratchet Drive System creates a 10° helical engagement between the hub and ratchet rings. This angled, conical interface allows the ratchet teeth to mesh progressively rather than head-on, spreading load more evenly and maintaining constant contact through each engagement. The result is efficient torque transfer, reduced stress on components, and quieter operation under peak load. The 120-tooth helical ratchet system delivers 3° engagement for immediate reaction, ensuring instant power when accelerating. Together, these technologies deliver precise responsiveness and long-term durability, helping you maximize your speed and control on the most demanding XC terrain.

HIGH IMPACT RESISTANCE

Built to withstand the demands of modern XC racing and fast trail riding, Wide Guard Technology with reinforced hookless carbon rim construction delivers industry-leading strength and reliability. Rounded-edge 5mm better absorb impacts, reducing the risk of pinch flats, and a 30mm inner width supports lower tire pressures for more traction and control. Each XCR spoke features six carbon fiber tows, delivering increased strength and impact resistance over competitor designs with four tows. The result is exceptional durability and strength without added weight.

Techs & Features

Dynamic Balanced Lacing

Since its introduction in 2015, Dynamic Balanced Lacing (DBL) has been the cornerstone of Giant WheelSystems. DBL ensures that spokes are set for optimal tension when under dynamic load, resulting in enhanced durability and pedaling efficiency. The enlarged DBL hub flange also increases the spoke bracing angles, which boosts overall torsional/transmission and lateral stiffness for better power transfer and more stable sprinting.

Wide Guard Technology

When your wheel hits a sharp or square edge, especially at speed, pinch flats and rim damage can occur. Wide Guard technology minimizes this risk by broadening the contact point between the rim and tire with a solid 5mm rim sidewall. That means you can skip the heavy tire inserts to have less unsprung weight on your bike and allow your suspension to perform better. The wide sidewalls also better protect your wheel from big impacts, reducing the possibility of rim damage.

Hookless Rim Design

Hookless rim design enhances overall durability, offers a wider inner rim width without adding extra weight and also helps create a more round tire shape providing superior grip and handling as well as added sidewall support when cornering. Additionally, without the rim hook to “push” the tire bead inward, hookless rim design offers a more seamless airflow between the tire and the sidewall of the rim, resulting in less drag and improved aero performance when compared to standard hook-type rims.

Tubeless System

Fewer flat tires. Greater traction. Less rolling resistance and a smoother, faster ride. Giant’s Tubeless System makes it easier than ever to experience all these benefits.
