Team Sunweb Riders Score Multiple National Titles!

Teams/Riders

Last week was national road championships week for various nations around the world, and riders from Team Sunweb scored big, winning three national champions’ jerseys, including a sweep of the elite men’s road and time trial races in the Netherlands.

In time trial competition, Giro d’Italia champion Tom Dumoulin won the elite men’s championship in the Netherlands, and Georg Preidler took home the Austrian national TT championship. Both men won riding the Trinity Advanced Pro TT bike along with the Giant Rivet TT helmet.

Dumoulin, who won the 50km TT in Montferland, successfully managed his recovery from the Giro and retained his top form racing against the clock. It was his third time winning the elite men’s time trial championship in the Netherlands.

“Dealing with the mental and physical aspects of the past few weeks have gone pretty well and have been much easier than I had anticipated,” Dumoulin said. “It's great to be able to wear the jersey for another year."

In Austria, Preidler powered his Trinity Advanced Pro TT to the win on a hilly course with a 40-second advantage over his rivals. “I’m really happy with the result,” said Preidler, who reclaimed a title he also won in 2015. “I had expected to maybe get onto the podium but didn’t anticipate winning whatsoever. The competition was so fierce. I gave it my all and it worked out that I was fast enough. I’m really pleased to be able to wear the jersey again.”

Other notable TT performances included Søren Kragh Andersen, who finished fourth in the Danish elite men’s race.

In addition to the TT wins, Ramon Sinkeldam added a third victory for the team with an impressive win in the Dutch elite men’s national road race championship. The team worked together to help put Sinkeldam in position to sprint for the win on his TCR Advanced SL team bike. Early in the race, Albert Timmer and Tom Stamsnijder joined a breakaway group. After that break was reeled in, the team was also active in several counter-attacks.

In the end, it came down to a sprint, and Sinkeldam delivered after a strong leadout from the team. “This is an amazing victory for me and the team,” he said. “The guys did an amazing job throughout the whole day and executed our plan to perfection. I was able to stay fresh and finish off the team’s hard work to take the win. It’s amazing to have the support of the staff and team to be able to win today.”
