The website road.cc recently reviewed the new Giant SLR 0 42 WheelSystem, calling the lightweight composite wheels “an ideal all-round go-faster set of hoops.” Tester Liam Cahill gave the WheelSystem, which also comes set up with tubeless Gavia AC 0 tires, a strong 4-star ranking (out of 5).
Cahill used the SLR 0 42 WheelSystem for both training and racing. “My initial impression of the wheels was very positive,” he wrote. “The rims are wide, feel fast and handle well. The hubs are simple to service, quiet and robust. They've performed excellently in my mix of hilly races, flat criteriums and general riding with good braking and stability in crosswinds."
Cahill detailed all the technologies in the composite wheels, praising the high-quality Swiss hub internals and overall weight of just 1420 grams for the pair. “I’ve also been very impressed with the lateral stiffness of these wheels,” he wrote. “As much as I threw the bike from side to side out of the saddle, I couldn’t get any rub from the brakes.”
Cahill was also impressed with all the parts included with the WheelSystem. “Another great little detail with these wheels is the extra bits that you get,” he wrote. “The skewers (66g front, 71g rear) are really good: very smooth to close and secure when shut. You also get tire levers that really help with fitting, and the supplied tubeless valves are simple to use.”
