Gutierrez Scores Top-10 at Crankworx Innsbruck DH!

Teams/Riders

The downhill unit of the Giant Factory Off-Road Team traveled to Innsbruck, Austria, over the weekend to compete at Round 2 of the Crankworx World Tour series. Scheduled the week after Round 3 of the World Cup series in Leogang, Austria, the Crankworx event features a full slate of gravity events for pro and amateur competitors.

Marcelo Gutierrez led the team with a top-10 finish in the elite men’s downhill, piloting his Glory Advanced team bike to an eighth-place finish on the steep, technical track in the Alps. The team also scored two other top-20 finishes: Irishman Jacob Dickson was 12th, and American Eliot Jackson was 16th. All three riders wore the Giant Shuttle DH shoes for their runs.

“I’m very happy with the result in Innsbruck,” said Gutierrez, a seven-time national champion in Colombia. “The track here is similar to what we have in Colombia, it's a mixture of many things that makes it special.”

The time gaps in the men’s DH race were tight, and Gutierrez was less than 1 second off the podium. “I feel my mind is in a good place and I think I have a good shot at more podiums this year, which is what I am aiming for,” he said.

Dickson also continues to build his form after missing a month with an injury following a crash at Round 1 of the World Cup series. The Irish national champion made the podium at last year’s Crankworx Innsbruck event, but had to settle for 12th this year. But with Jackson just a few places back in 16th, it was a solid, consistent effort in Austria as the team looks forward to the second half of the World Cup season, starting with Round 4 in Italy in early July.
