Černy, Gradek Score TT National Titles for CCC Team!

Thursday, August 20, 2020

It’s national road championships week in several European nations, and two CCC Team riders, Kamil Gradek of Poland and Josef Černy of the Czech Republic, brought home titles in their time trial events.

Gradek improved on his silver medal finish at the 2019 Polish Time Trial Championship, powering his Trinity Advanced Pro TT bike with a CADEX Aero WheelSystem to the win on a 44km course. The 29-year-old was able to build up his form at the Vuelta a Burgos and Tour de Pologne stage races in recent weeks, and he showed that his preparations worked as he laid down the power to average 52 kph.

“Winning this race and taking the jersey was a big personal goal of mine for this year and I am happy to have been able to reach it,” said Gradek, who finished ahead of defending champion Maciej Bodnar. “I knew it would be a nice opportunity for me to try to go for the title and I felt good. I am really pleased with the result and also to finish ahead of Bodnar, who is always a favorite, for the first time.”

Černy was coming off a hard effort at the Tour de Wallonie, where he rode in support of teammate Greg van Avermaet who finished second overall at the four-day Belgian stage race. Černy had won the elite men's TT title at the Czech nationals in 2018 and was looking forward to regaining the jersey.

“It was a long trip to get here and I arrived not too long before the start,” said Černy, who also rode the Trinity Advanced Pro TT bike with a CADEX Aero WheelSystem. “It was a different course, so I just did a quick recon lap, warmed up on the rollers, and then it was time to start. We didn’t have any time checks and it was only a difference of ten seconds between first and second. But it was a really fast race and my average pace was 51 kph. It will be nice to wear the [national champion’s] skinsuit again so I’m looking forward to doing my next time trial in Czech colors.”

Both Gradek and Černy also chose the Giant Rivet TT helmet for an aero advantage. Road national championships continue this week in Poland, the Czech Republic and other nations, with road racing events scheduled next.
