Bike Check: Josh Berry's Revolt Advanced

Friday, November 22, 2019

Josh Berry, a former American road racing pro, is now splitting his time between attending college in Arizona and trying to win the biggest gravel racing events in the world. We caught up with him recently at the Spirit World 100, a gravel event in Patagonia, Arizona, where he was riding his new Revolt Advanced.

It’s the off-season for Berry, and he was in Patagonia, near the U.S./Mexico border about 60 mile south of his home in Tucson, to ride in the grassroots event that’s organized by friends. We talked to him about his new bike and his new passion for riding and racing “alternative events.”

“As a professional road racer, I found myself stuck on the road bike all the time and living somewhere with amazing mountains,” Berry said. “I just took [my road bike] on the singletrack and on the dirt roads but I was limited. Now we’re making bikes that I can do even more on, with more people, in different places.”

In 2018, Berry signed up for Dirty Kanza 200, one of the most well-known gravel races in the world, and he finished second. He was hooked. Now Berry is racing with the Giant Factory Off-Road Team, focusing on North American events like the DK200, Gravel Worlds in Nebraska, and Rebecca’s Private Idaho.

Berry has a new gravel machine for the upcoming season, the Revolt Advanced with a composite Giant WheelSytem and Shimano GRX drivetrain. Here’s a detailed look at his new Gravel Crusher:
