Bicycling Selects TCR Advanced Disc for Editors' Choice Award!

Bicycling Magazine selected three Giant bikes for its 2018 Editors’ Choice Awards, a highly selective list of the year’s best bikes.

The 2018 TCR Advanced Disc road bike joins two other Giant bikes—the Anthem 29 XC mountain bike and Defy Advanced endurance road bike—on the list, which includes just 16 road bikes and 16 mountain bikes.

For its road bike awards, Bicycling editors considered hundreds of models in all road categories—including race, endurance, gravel and aero bikes—and then narrowed their list down to 123 finalists. From there, they wrote, “we brought those bikes to a staff-wide, weeklong test camp in our Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, home that let us directly and intensively compare and contrast the rides to ferret out hidden strengths and weaknesses, and better understand traits that had been apparent from the start.”

Bicycling editor Matt Phillips wrote that, when it comes to all-around road performance, it’s hard to beat the TCR Advanced 1 Disc - KOM model.

“We’ve long been fans of Giant’s TCR platform,” Phillips wrote. “The top-end versions are some of the very best racing bikes. But perhaps more remarkable is how good the TCRs are at more affordable prices. It starts with the frame, which Giant builds in its own Taiwan-based facilities: a sweet blend of stiffness and comfort, with sharp handling. For racing, fast group riding, or solo Strava sniping, this bike outshines its price class.”

Phillips praised the component spec of the TCR Advanced 1 Disc - KOM model, including the innovative Conduct hydraulic disc brakes and Giant Tubeless System wheels and tires.

“The frame comes with a solid Shimano Ultegra/105 blend drivetrain with a wide-range cassette to get you home even when you’re blown,” Phillips wrote. “And tubeless-ready rims and tires are a bonus.”
