Initially focusing on the specification, the Giant SLR 2 42mm wheels received plenty of praise, being referred to as “a cut above the competition here”. The tubeless compatibility and new hookless design is a key factor, with Cycling Plus saying “at 1545g per pair, the SLR 2’s are impressively light for a bike this price”.
The smooth Ultegra shifting, precise braking from the RT70 rotors and quality Giant finishing kit were also highlighted as being a key factor in the bike’s top all-around performance package.
Moving onto how it felt out on the road, the TCR was noted as a bike “that wants to go quickly”. Expanding further, Cycling Plus explained, “it's the best here when it comes to climbing, partly down to the lower overall weight and light wheels”. The TCR doesn't just excel at climbing, as they discovered; “on the descents, the TCR feels superbly planted”.
Overall, Cycling Plus’ Senior technical editor who conducted the testing, Warren Rossiter, summed up the review by stating; “it handles any road topography you can throw at it with ease, its handling is hypnotically good and it looks simply superb”.
