CyclingTips: ToughRoad SLR GX is Ready for Adventure
CyclingTips published a new review of the ToughRoad SLR GX, a drop-bar adventure bike designed for riding on roads, gravel and dirt. Tester David Rome hit the dirt on some adventurous terrain near Sydney, Australia, and detailed his impressions in the review.
“The ToughRoad sits at the exploration end of the gravel spectrum,” Rome wrote. “It’s built tough, and has plenty of tire clearance to see it tackle whatever you’re willing to point it at.”
Rome covered some of the highlights, components and technologies in the ToughRoad SLR GX 0 model that he tested, and described the go-anywhere all-rounder, which is built with a lightweight ALUXX SLR aluminum frame and composite fork, as a “versatile gravel or off-road bikepacking rig on a budget.”
Rome also praised some of the key components, including the Giant Tubeless System wheels and tires. “The rolling stock is a surprisingly good-quality setup given that the entire bike costs less than most wheelsets we typically review,” he wrote. “The 19mm (internal width) tubeless alloy rims will take a beating, while the butted spokes and sealed bearing hubs should provide a reliable service life with minimal maintenance.”
Summing it up, Rome wrote: “All up, Giant have put together an impressive package for the money, and one that serves as a strong entry point into the adventure side of off-road riding.”
