Cycling Plus, Britain’s biggest road bike magazine, posted their latest review on BikeRadar for the 2018 Contend SL 1, the top value all round aluminium road bike. After thorough testing, they awarded the bike 4.5 stars out of 5, calling it “another impressive all-rounder that hits the heights”!
Focusing on the componentry, BikeRadar were impressed with the performance of the unique D-fuse post getting attention; “compact frame allows a good deal of the carbon composite D-Fuse seatpost to be exposed for extra rear-end plushness”.
The ALUXX aluminium frame and geometry is designed for all round performance, particularly on how the bike handles - acknowledged by tester Simon Withers; “handling from the Contend’s OverDrive steerer is perfectly controlled, and the bike is pretty much ideal if you’re looking for a single machine to cover virtually every base when it comes to road riding”.
The Contend is a versatile machine, equally at home on the crit circuit or getting to work on a Monday morning; full mudguard compatibility makes it a “composed commuter for high-speed work runs”.
Overall, the Contend was summed up as “pretty much ideal if you’re looking for a single machine to cover virtually every base when it comes to road riding”.
