Cody Scott takes first gravel win

14 septembre 2021

Giant Canada Off-Road Team rider Cody Scott wins the Forbidden Gravel Experience in his first gravel event. It didn't come easy after a mid-race incident.

The first-ever Forbidden Gravel Experience took place in Cumberland, BC on a very challenging course set out by the local organizers. With a mix of tough elevation, fast gravel roads and technical singletrack, this was a pure test of what is described as "BC Gravel". Having recently moved to Vancouver Island Giant Canada Off-Road Team member Cody Scott was keen to try out a Gravel event. The young rider is used to XCO and Cyclocross races so should be suited to Gravel races as it mixes both of the categories together.

Cody chose to use his TCX Advanced Pro Cyclocross bike for the event but opted to run 40c tires. Pitched against tough competition from the start Cody managed to make the early break after the rolling neutral start. The first segment of the race was a 40k out and back around the Comox Lake on undulating fire roads. On the return journey, the leading pack of 7 riders collided with a medic vehicle that was travelling towards them to assist another rider. Cody managed to take the brunt of the impact and hit the vehicle hood and windscreen. After picking himself up off the ground and suffering cuts on the arms and leg he remounted and began the chase to catch the lead group.

After a heroic effort, he got back and went on the attack across a rough and difficult singletrack section. With the adrenaline pumping, he got away with one rider and managed to make it stick. Following the biggest climb of the course, the two riders made a big gap and kept it until the last singletrack climb where an unfortunate mechanical meant Cody had to make the run to the finish line alone and take the win. A huge performance by the young rider to take his first gravel Event victory the first time out.

Cody was riding with our Limited Edition Rev Pro MIPS helmet and Charge Pro Shoes.
