Giant Steps Up Its Role as Technical Partner To Team Sunweb

Equipos / Atletas

With the start of the 2017 international road racing season just around the corner, Giant has been working closely with Team Sunweb to outfit both its UCI WorldTour team and its Continental Development Team riders with cutting-edge bikes and gear to give them a competitive advantage throughout the season. The organization also includes the Team Sunweb women’s squad, which is sponsored by Liv.

All three teams will race under the name Team Sunweb, wearing the new black-and-white kit with red highlights. The two-stripe design reflects the team’s “Keep Challenging” philosophy. One stripe represents the continuous development of athletes, the other represents the team’s technology-focused approach to sport.

Since partnering with the team three years ago, Giant has continually expanded its role as technical partner, working with some of the sport’s top professional riders to create, develop and test new bikes and gear.

When the WorldTour season kicks off later this month at the Tour Down Under in Australia, Team Sunweb riders will have a full quiver of Giant bikes to choose for all race formats, conditions and terrain. Sunweb riders will also be using Giant helmets, saddles, stems, handlebars and racing computers in 2017. The Development Team will race on Giant WheelSystems and tubeless tires.

From monumental classics to the Tour de France, bikes like the TCR Advanced SL and Propel Advanced SL have helped pro racers win cycling’s most demanding events. And breakthrough gear items including the Rev, Rivet, Rivet TT and Pursuit helmets have become part of this team’s winning formula.

Here’s a look at the Giant bikes and gear that Team Sunweb riders such as Tom Dumoulin, Michael Matthews and Warren Barguil will compete with in 2017:

TCR Advanced SL: Known as the “Total Race Bike”, this is the choice of Team Sunweb stage racers, climbers and all-rounders such as Dumoulin and Barguil. With the highest stiffness-to-weight ratio of any road bike on the market, it’s the perfect choice for long training days, critical stages, and any race with challenging terrain.

Propel Advanced SL: This aero road machine has won Tour de France stages, monumental classics and sprint finishes all around the world. Expect to see the team’s designated sprinters on the latest Propel models when the sprints heat up this summer.

Defy Advanced SL: For the hardest races with the most punishing terrain, including cobblestone classics like Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders, Team Sunweb classics riders can choose this smooth-riding endurance road bike. Engineered for compliance, it gives them lightweight efficiency with added comfort and control.

Trinity Advanced Pro TT: Designed and developed with the team’s top time trialists, this is the machine that Tom Dumoulin rode to a Dutch national championship and an Olympic medal in Rio last summer. Engineered to push the envelope of aero performance, it’s the bike of choice when racing against the clock.

Pursuit: Introduced during the 2016 race season, Pursuit combines the aero speed of a TT helmet with the head-cooling ventilation of an all-rounder helmet. Tested and proven at the highest level of competition, it’s a top choice for all-around aero performance.

Rev: Lightweight, comfortable and engineered for maximum ventilation, Rev is the go-to helmet for summit finishes and long, hot stages in the mountains. Tom Dumoulin wore the Rev to win the queen stage of the 2016 Tour de France, a mountaintop finish in Andorra.

Rivet: Proven through multiple wins by the team’s top sprinters, this aero road helmet was developed in the wind tunnel and refined in the pro peloton. Rivet offers superior aero performance without compromising fit, ventilation and light weight.

Rivet TT: Front to back, every curve of the Rivet TT is fine-tuned through Computational Fluid Dynamics for optimal time trial aerodynamics. With national championships, grand tour stage wins, and Olympic medals to its name, Rivet TT helps Sunweb riders shave seconds off their time trial efforts.

Contact SLR Saddle: After several years of testing and refining, this new saddle makes its WorldTour debut this year with Team Sunweb. Using Giant’s Dynamic Cycling Fit philosophy, which helps all riders achieve the perfect fit for body, position and riding style, this premium saddle with a lightweight carbon rail plays a key role in optimizing comfort and efficiency for long, hard days in the saddle.

Contact SL Saddle: Sunweb Development Team riders will use the Contact SL saddle, which features the same Dynamic Cycling Fit philosophy and Particle Flow Technology to reduce pressure points by more than 20 percent. The SL model has stainless steel rails.

Contact SLR handlebar: Engineered with ultralight, full-composite material and available in multiple shapes and sizes, this handlebar is also making its debut with the team.

Contact SLR stem: Lightweight and super stiff, this full composite stem delivers uncompromising performance for sprinting, cornering, climbing and descending.

NeosTrack GPS Computer: Team Sunweb riders are using Giant’s next-generation computer, which offers both navigation and training functions. Compatible with all training accessories, including power meters, heartrate straps, speed/cadence sensors, and smart trainers, it offers everything a pro racer needs. And its Shimano Di2 function shows real-time gearing ratios and combinations as well as battery levels. The latest NeosTrack GPS computer will be commercially available later this year.

As part of Giant’s expanding line of Tubeless System products, Team Sunweb Development riders will have a full selection of Giant WheelSystems and Gavia SLR Tubeless Ready tires to race on throughout the season. The riders of this UCI Continental squad will use the SLR 0 WheelSystem featuring Dynamic Balanced Lacing technology, which offers best-in-class transmission stiffness for the highest level of efficiency.

Sunweb Development team riders will also use the new Gavia SLR tires, made with a supple 170 TPI casing and featuring a Tubeless Ready design that’s optimized for Giant WheelSystems. In addition, Team Sunweb WorldTour riders will use Gavia SLR Tubeless Ready tires for training.

This year Giant steps up as the team’s official team kit supplier. Designed in collaboration with the team and manufactured by Etxeondo, a legendary manufacturer of high-tech fabrics and racing apparel, Giant supplies Team Sunweb riders with the latest products to advance their performance and keep them comfortable while training and racing.
