Giger Wins in China!

September 30, 2012

Rabobank-Giant cross-country racer Fabian Giger chalked up a late-season victory Saturday at the Guiyang MTB Invitation race in China. The 25-year-old Swiss rider, currently ranked fifth in the world, used his new XtC Advanced SL 29er to score the win at a venue being considered for World Cup competition next year.

Giger’s teammate Emil Lindgren also had a strong race, finishing fourth.

Racing on a 4.1km course that could see World Cup action as early as next year, Giger broke away early with fellow Swiss rider Martin Gujan and Frenchman Maxime Marotte. The three stayed together for the first three of seven laps, then Giger made his move on lap four. He fought off the chasers all the way to the finish, beating Gujan by just under a minute.

Lindgren finished fourth, 2:10 back, and a third Rabobank-Giant rider, Henk Jaap Moorlag, finished 10th.
