Breschel Top-10 at Flanders

April 2, 2012

Rabobank rider Matti Breschel scored another impressive top-10 result in the spring classics, fighting his way to 10th place at Sunday’s Tour of Flanders in Belgium.

The entire Rabobank team was active all day long in the gruelling 256km race, fighting for position on the narrow cobblestone streets of northern Belgium. Maarten Tjallingii joined the day’s first breakaway, a 15-man group that gained a lead of 6 minutes, on his Defy Advanced SL.

Breschel, who chose to ride his TCR Advanced SL, emerged as a contender in the final approach to the new finish in Oudenaarde. He was part of a select group of 40 riders chasing a three-man break. In the end, he finished 38 seconds behind the day’s winner, Tom Boonen of Belgium, for his second straight top-10 after his podium finish at Gent-Wevelgem the previous weekend.

The month of spring classics races continues next week with Paris-Roubaix.
