TCR WINS! Awards Pour in for Giant's 2016 Road Range
April 21, 2016
Giant’s TCR road bikes saw a major redesign last year, and now that cycling editors around the world have had a chance to do some long-term testing on it, the awards and accolades are rolling in.
Bicycling Magazine honored the TCR Advanced SL with a 2016 Editors' Choice Award, describing it as "a razor blade" and "astonishingly finished." It is "the most balanced of the ultra-high performance bikes," wrote one tester, and another called it "supremely confident in all conditions." Summing it up, Bicycling, the world's largest cycling magazine, wrote: "This bike is, simply, exceptional."
One of the most impressive showings for TCR came when the German magazine TOUR, known for its comprehensive testing procedures in the laboratory and on the road, named the TCR Advanced SL the winner in a group test of 15 high-performance road bikes. It beat more than a dozen top competitor bikes including the Specialized S-Works Tarmac, Trek Emonda SLR, BMC Teammachine SLR01 and Ridley Helium SL.
“This is a deserved reward for an all-around harmonious bike," wrote TOUR editors. “The [Giant SLR-0 DBL] wheels are light and stable, and the integrated seatpost adds comfort. The good laboratory results are matched by its impeccable riding characteristics. The proprietary carbon wheels feel light and offer excellent braking performance.”
In Great Britain, the TCR Advanced SL made the “RCUK 100,” an annual selection of the year’s top cycling products from Road Cycling UK magazine.
“The new frame has been rebuilt from the ground up, with the finished product a lighter, torsionally stiffer frame and a lighter fork,” wrote Road Cycling UK editors. “And the new iteration of Giant’s climber’s bike is 12 percent lighter than its predecessors in fact—without any compromise when it comes to that fabled stiffness.”
The TCR Advanced Pro series has also left an impression with the cycling media. ROAD Magazine named it “Race Bike of the Year” for 2016. Another U.S. magazine, Peloton, also praised the TCR Advanced Pro in its October 2015 issue.
Describing the bike’s all-around performance on the road, Peloton editors wrote: “The TCR is for the rider who likes punchy accelerations, from animating a race with relentless attacks to whipping around a wheel to close a gap. The responsiveness of the TCR will not disappoint and at 14.2 pounds its climbing chops are beyond reproach. The new TCR Advanced Pro 0 is all of this, with a level of comfort never before present in the line.”
Another respected German magazine, RoadBIKE, also gave top honors to the TCR Advanced Pro, naming it a test winner in a select group of 20 top road bikes in its category.
“The TCR Advanced Pro is well-suited to long rides, and its carbon clincher SLR 1 WheelSystem makes any rider feel stronger,” wrote RoadBIKE editors.
And the website road.cc gave the TCR Advanced Pro a near perfect score of 4.5 (out of 5) stars, calling it “an exceptionally good race bike that combines stiffness and light weight, and a really strong spec.”
