Chicago, IL – Giant’s first 2006 Bike Town gets rolling with the help of Kozy’s Bicycles on Saturday, May 20, 2006 in Daley Bicentennial Plaza.

Bicycling Magazine’s inspiring BikeTown program got rolling in Chicago at Daley Bicentennial Plaza on Saturday May 20, 2006. The Bike Town program awards bicycles to the top 50 entries who best explain how the gift of a bicycle can change and improve their lives. The participants report the changes and improvements to Bicycling Magazine for three months. The stories are tracked monthly in Bicycling with an in-depth follow up and results in a special Bike Town issue published at the end of the year.

Many of the 50 lucky recipients were able to attend the formal presentation on a beautiful sunny Chicago day, the first sunny day in nearly two weeks of rain and cold. A great day to go on a bike ride! The recipients ranged in age from 17 to 84. The more senior winner was anxious to get new bike after cycling for the last 40 years on the same bike. Many recipients will use the bike to lose weight and get back into better physical health. One young mother, who didn’t know how to ride, would use this as an opportunity to learn to ride and spend time with her children who all ride bikes. Another mother will use her Bike Town bike as a step toward a better world and a healthier lifestyle environment for her 3-year old.

The new Cypress EX bicycle was chosen as Giant’s officialBike Town bike for 2006. It’s equipped with a Shimano Nexus 7 speed internal hub making it easy to ride and convenient to shift. It’s available in a wide range of sizes in men’s and ladies style frames. Click on the link for more information on the Cypress EX .
