Cross-country mountain biking is a form of off-road cycling that focuses on endurance and speed over trails that include climbs, descents and technical trails. It involves rides or races of varying lengths that test your fitness and bike-handling skills. The challenge of riding steep uphills, tight switchbacks, fast descents, and obstacles including roots and rocks makes it a fun way to push yourself and build your fitness and skills. 

A cross-country bike is designed to be as light, efficient, and responsive as possible, while a trail bike is a bit heavier, due to longer suspension travel, and has a more relaxed, slack geometry for additional stability when descending. A trail bike descends more comfortably but does not offer the same speed and agility when climbing.

Because an XC bike is meant to go up and down singletrack as quickly as possible, it is designed to be light and nimble. This means short-travel suspension, aggressive frame geometry, and a shorter wheelbase for more responsive handling.

An XC bike is for going fast, wherever and whenever you feel the urge. Whether that means just riding fast, racing, or both is entirely up to you! Oftentimes the sensation of riding an XC bike at speed is the gateway to signing up for a local race.
