Gutierrez Wins 6th Straight Manizales Urban DH!
13 Januar 2017
For the sixth consecutive season, Giant Factory Off-Road Team rider Marcelo Gutierrez kicked off his racing season with a win at the Manizales Urban Downhill race in Colombia. It has become an annual tradition for the hometown hero to return to central Colombia and defend his title on the challenging Manizales course, which combines steep urban cityscapes with man-made obstacles and jumps.
It’s a remarkable streak for Gutierrez, who says that despite his successes there, delivering the win to the hometown fans is always a challenge.
“In my hometown, with great fans—it may sound easy,” Gutierrez said. “Wrong! That means more pressure. Each year this race gets harder. The level of the track keeps getting better, and the experienced riders are hard to beat.”
Gutierrez piloted his new Glory Advanced team bike to the win, and says it was a nice confirmation of his off-season training.
“There was a lot of work prior to this race,” Gutierrez said. “I’ve been working with my trainer Julian Mauri and coach Oscar Saiz on physical and technical aspects to make the best out of 2017. The work really did make a difference during this race.”
