What's your favourite bike and why?
My 2016 TCR that bike has taken me on adventures that some might call a little insane. It is my go to machine for when I need to just turn the pedals, that bike is part of my soul and I still smile every time I see it.
What's your favourite place to ride and why?
My favourite place to ride is the Cabot trail here in Cape Breton Nova Scotia. It has everything from low traffic, big climbs, and smoking descents. It’s a rewarding place to ride but can also be defeating and test every single part of your endurance along the way. It’s a beautiful place that every cyclist should ride
What's your must-have cycling accessory and why?
Good lights.. it sounds minuscule but being seen on the road makes everyone safer. You also never know here in Nova Scotia when the weather will go from Sunny to Hurricane force winds and rain. I always have my lights on and charged for the road. Also comfy kit… that will make or break a ride.
What's your favourite bike discipline and why?
I love road racing. I only starting cycling about 4 years ago and quickly picked up how amazing the community can be. Road racing has introduced me to new friends and has really pushed me to discipline my training and myself to push hard. I love the team dynamic but also those last few hundred meters are always just on you. It’s amazing what we can push ourselves through and road racing has shown me what I am capable of.
We do allot of hiking.. Nova Scotia has amazing locations even sometimes 5 minutes away from your house. It’s a unique location that allows you to get see some much wilderness so close to everything around you.
Life Goals… I want a lot of things I want to make sure that my kids do the things they love in life (Hopefully that includes cycling). I want to make a difference in how people access, obtain healthcare here in Nova Scotia. I also want to keep driving the racing community here at home. In my first year of racing, there were 3 road races and 5 cyclocross for the entire year. With our dedicated team that runs Roadents racing, we have been able to offer over 25 events this year from gravel to TT’s, Road races and Crits. I want to keep this going as long as I can because if we don’t who will take over when we are too old to turn the cranks.
Biggest cycling achievement
The Cabot Trail in a day (Now an Annual ride) but this one is something special.. 300Km, 4000 meters in elevation. https://www.strava.com/activities/4116573683 This ride gives you goosebumps after you are done. You are tired, sore, and mentally drained but you are so proud to finish and you are so proud of the crew you ride it with. There are parts of this ride that will challenge every part of you and there are parts of this ride (The descents) that make you feel like a kid again. I love this ride and I can’t wait to share it with more people
