Cycling Weekly recently reviewed the new Giant SLR 1 Disc Carbon 42 WheelSystem, giving the lightweight composite road wheels a near-perfect score of 9/10 and calling them “a super upgrade to any bike at a very competitive price.” The review appears online and in print, where the SLR 1 Disc Carbon topped the Roval CL 50 Disc and Zipp 302 wheels to earn Cycling Weekly's "Best on Test" designation.
“Giant is now producing wheels that are as good as any currently on the market, with the Sunweb pro team riding the top-level ones as proof,” wrote Cycling Weekly tester Simon Smythe. “What’s more, as one of the earliest champions of disc brakes, it’s a pretty safe bet that a set of disc-specific Giant wheels will be more than fit for the purpose.”
Cycling Weekly detailed the features and technologies in the composite road wheels, including its tubeless ready rims, high-quality Swiss hub internals and an overall weight of just 1580 grams for the pair.
Summing up the ride, Smythe wrote: “This is as good a wheelset as you’ll find at this price. Design, build quality, weight and aesthetics are everything you could hope for.”
