Giant Australia Off-Road team off to flying start!
For 2018 Giant Australia's Off-Road Team roster sees a strong trio of riders set to take on a combination of Enduro, Cross Country Olympic (XCO), Cross Country Marathon (XCM) and Cyclocross formats both in Australia and internationally.
Returning to the roster for 2018 is Melbourne based Paul van der Ploeg. The winner of the XCE World Championship in 2013 has recently turned his focus to the popular Enduro format. One of his first races of the 2018 season is the Trans NZ enduro race taking place on the South Island. Paul hopes to better his 3rd position in which he finished last year and he'll be piloting the all-new 2018 Reign Advanced at the event which kicked off over the weekend. Paul finished the first day in 4th behind some big names in the sport including Jerome Clementz.
Joining the team this year is the current XCM National Champion Brendan Johnston. Based out of Canberra, Brendan has cemented himself as the rider to beat over the longer distance Cross Country Marathon format. The current three time XCM Champion will be racing throughout the year on his all-new 2018 Anthem Advanced Pro 29er 0. As well as racing the marathon format, Brendan will race some XCO events and road races to keep fit throughout the season. Brendan finished a strong 4th place in the MTBA National XCO Championships this past weekend in Armidale, NSW.
Also signing with Giant Australia this year is youngster Adam Blazevic hailing from Melbourne. Although only 18 years of age, Adam already has a stack of local and international wins against his name and will split his racing between mountain bike and cyclocross racing. Adam is already off to a cracking start this season having piloted his Anthem Advanced Pro 29er 0 to 1st place in the 50km Otway Odyssey event over the weekend.
