Brendan Johnston wins Port to Port MTB!
Port to Port MTB is an annual event that takes place over 4 days around Newcastle in New South Wales. A field of over 500 riders took on this year's event which sees stages taking place in various parts of the local region through some truly fantastic scenery and singletrack. Defending champion and Giant sponsored rider Brendan Johnston was joined by some of Australia's best riders in the Elite field this year including current XCO & XCM champion Cam Ivory.
This year's race saw a fantastic battle between mainly three riders throughout the event. Brendan, Cam Ivory & Tasman Nankervis. Brendan took the lead in the event after winning stage two, after over 8 hours and almost 200kms of racing he took the win by a margin of only 13 seconds from 2nd place finisher Tasman Nankervis! Brendan put his trust in his Anthem Advanced Pro 29er 0 mountain bike on all 4 days getting through the event with no mechanical issues. After his victory Brendan said, "I knew I was up against some really strong competition at this years edition of Port to Port, I pretty much had to just fight each day for seconds, and it was super important to avoid having any setbacks mechanical or otherwise. The race came to to a tiny margin and I’m so happy to win this race aboard my Anthem."
Fellow Giant ambassador Jon Odams took a very respectable 5th place overall after battling sickness early on in the event. The two riders will pair up to take on Port to Port MTB's sister event Reef to Reef in Cairns later on in the year.
