One of two Australian rounds of the 2022 Trek UCI Gravel World Series was held in Nannup, Western Australia over the weekend. The Seven Gravel Race was the first Australian round in the inaugural UCI Gravel World Series with the second stop visiting Australia again later on in the year. Representing Giant Australia was multi-discipline rider Adam Blazevic who hails from Melbourne, he used his extensive multi-discilpinary experience including cyclocross, mountain bike, and road experience to his advantage on the gravel roads surrounding Nannup.
The race became a battle between Adam Blazevic and Nathan Haas who has turned his attention away from WorldTour on the road to focus on gravel in 2022. Blazevic launched an attack in the later stages of the event dropping Haas to claim victory. The 125km course with over 3,000m of climbing certainly wasn't easy and was a great test for Adam who is planning on heading over to Europe soon to take on additional gravel events.
After claiming the win, Adam had this to say, "It was awesome racing down in Nannup, Western Australia for the Seven Gravel Race. I really enjoyed the course with all the climbing and tried to use that to my advantage during the race." Adam chose to race on his TCX Advanced Pro gravel / cyclocross bike equipped with the latest mixed-terrain CADEX AR 35 WheelSystem from CADEX Cycling. Chasing maximum stiffness, he was one of the few riders to elect for his road footwear and pedals combination instead of his mountain bike footwear and pedals which are the traditional choice for mixed-terrain events.
Next up, Adam will be heading over to Europe to race the next round of the UCI Gravel World Series being held on the 5th of June in Millau, France. For full results from the event, head on over to the Seven Gravel Race website here.
