PROTOTYPE GIANT TIME TRIAL BIKE FEATURED IN BEIJING

The world got a glimpse of Giant’s latest technological marvel during the time trial stages at the Tour de France in July, and now several Giant-sponsored Olympians are getting their chance to ride this aerodynamic prototype in Beijing.

Among the riders who will race the Giant prototype TT bike is three-time world time trial champion Michael Rogers of Australia. Rogers, a member of Team Columbia who missed the Tour de France after being slowed by illness in the first half of the season, is considered a favorite for the 47-kilometer men’s Olympic time trial on August 13.

Several of Rogers’ Team Columbia teammates rode the Giant prototype at the Tour de France. Most notably, Kim Kirchen, who wore the yellow jersey in the first week, rode the Giant TT bike to second- and third-place finishes in the Tour’s two time trial stages.

The prototype bike is the result of a team effort between Giant engineers and Team Columbia. It was developed through extensive wind-tunnel testing, with additional input from Simon Smart, an aerodynamics engineer who is experienced in F1 racing.

The distinctive-looking prototype Giant—featuring a composite frameset with clean, aerodynamic lines—is not currently slated for production and remains unnamed. To get a closer look, watch for Michael Rogers and other Giant Olympians as they race against the clock in Beijing.
