Gesink Top-5 at Tour de Suisse
17 червня 2012
Rabobank rider Robert Gesink showed great all-around form to finish fourth overall in the June 9-17 Tour de Suisse stage race. Gesink’s teammate Steven Kruijswijk finished eighth overall, giving Rabobank two top-10 finishers in the last major stage race before the Tour de France.
Gesink rode an impressive trial in Gossau, finishing fifth on his Giant Trinity Advanced SL and beating all of the GC contenders to move up the standings. He blazed the 34.3km TT and jumped from 19th to third overall.
In the following days Gesink’s Rabobank teammates rode aggressively in the mountains to protect their team leader’s top-five standing.
Gesink and Kruijswijk both rode particularly well in Saturday’s penultimate stage, which finished on a climb. Gesink, who in May won the Amgen Tour of California, said afterward that he was feeling the effects of a pre-Tour de France climbing camp he had done earlier in the month in Spain.
“Today was another sign that things are going well,” Gesink said after Saturday’s Stage 8, where he finished fifth. “I had quite a good time trial on Friday, and a good mountain stage today.”
