Boom Leads Tour of Britain!
14 вересня 2011
Rabobank rider Lars Boom held onto his GC lead in the Tour of Britain Wednesday with a second-place finish on Stage 4. Boom, who finished second to World Champion Thor Hushovd on the 180km stage from Welshpool to Caerphilly, now leads Geraint Thomas of Great Britain by 12 seconds.
Boom assumed the lead in the eight-day stage race after winning Tuesday’s 150km Stage 3. Rabobank put on a show on the windy stage that followed the cancellation of Stage 2 due to weather. Boom and his Australian teammate Michael Matthews powered their Giant TCR Advanced SL bikes to first and second place.
That win allowed Boom to take over the lead from British sprinter Mark Cavendish. On Wedensday's Stage 4, Boom’s Rabobank teammates helped him protect the lead and set him up for the second-place finish behind Hushovd.
“The plan was to survive the day because it's maybe one of the most difficult stages of this race,” Boom told Cyclingnews.com.
The Tour of Britain continues through Sunday, when it finishes in London with two stages on its final day—an 8.8km time trial followed by an 80km circuit race.
